Sannougu Motoori hiyoshi jinja, which has the impressive torii (shrine gate) with Hafu, has been called “Sannousan”, “Hiyoshisan” since old times. In 1183, it was built in the present location, and it has been believedas God of “Kaiun mayoke” and “Kimon mayoke” by many people. There are many monkey statues inside shrine, because it was thought that those are messengers from God. The monkey statues used to be called that Masaru, which mean ward off evil spirits and superior, increase, win, lucky. Also, it is known for Basho wrote haiku poems. Additionally, “Otabi matsuri” (festival) is held in spring, which is full with people.
