Koumon Sugi

Guardian tree of Awazu-onsen

400years old tree staod in the center of Awazu onsen. It was named after Maeda Toshitsune, the third lord of Kaga, who called “Koumon”, who is said to have planted the tree. And, Yamano Tadahiko, the first plant doctor in Japan, healed the tree for the first time. The tree used to be in a ryokan ground, but it was moved into a road by a road expansion work, and now became local specialty.
